Profile of Gen Hoshino

Gen Hoshino is a singer-songwriter and actor from Saitama Prefecture.

He started playing guitar in the first grade of junior high school under the influence of his friends, and in 2000, he and his high school classmates formed the instrumental band “SAKEROCK” to start their music career.

His first album, “Baka no Uta” (Fool’s Song), was released under the auspices of “daisyworld discs” led by Haruomi Hosono, and includes songs co-written by Hosono and Hoshino.

Please enjoy one of my favorite songs of them all, “Kuse no Uta”! It is a sad and beautiful song.

And speaking of Mr. Hoshino…his wife is actress Yui Aragaki! I’m too envious… I guess Mr. Aragaki must be a nice person to choose Mr. Hoshino.

Gen Hoshino also has a special attachment to his song “Continues,” which is also the title of the tour, and was inspired by the words of Haruomi Hosono, one of Gen Hoshino’s greatest influences. Continues=continues. Any music in the world is connected to the music that has influenced it. I thought it would be great if I could express that in this live performance. He said.

When Mr. Hoshino is asked in various media which artist has had the greatest influence on him, he always answers “Haruomi Hosono”.

In the video “Music Discussion with Gen Hoshino / How Gen Hoshino writes love songs and how his new song ‘Fushigi’ was created / What ‘pop’ means to Gen Hoshino [J-WAVE WOW MUSIC]”, he mentions Tadashi Kosaka’s song “Thank you” as his favorite song. The song was “Arigatou” by Tadashi Kosaka.

In this program, Mr. Hoshino said that while many artists sing vocally with a high voice, Mr. Hosono also has a low voice and his voice is an instrument within an instrument. He said that he was influenced by the way he sings as if his voice were one of the instruments, which he thought was very cool.

George Duke

–Hoshino: Not so much for “Love,” but for “Continues,” I had the goal of incorporating elements of George Duke, Grover Washington, Jr. and Hosono (Haruomi).

Gen Hoshino talks about the new development of “yellow music”: “I want to make music that moves me.

Funky fusion star of the 70’s! The old disco sound is numbing!

Grover Washington Jr.

The quote is from the aforementioned

Fusion great Grover Washington, Jr! Mr. Hoshino is quite influenced by black music! The album “Winelight” released by saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. in 1980 won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance in 1982. It won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance in 1982. It is fashionable music at its best!

Kenji Ozawa

He heard “Music Played by Spheres” from the library in high school and thought it was a jazzy and stylish album and listened to it a lot, but he didn’t like it much because it looked flirtatious. LOL!

Then, when he grew up, he heard “LIFE” and found out how great it was. In the video below, he explained how great the lyrics are.
